Thanks to players of People's Postcode Lottery, service users at Sense Scotland's TouchBase centre in Glasgow are cooking up a storm.
The People's Postcode Trust team joined staff, service users and their families for the grand opening of a newly refurbished accessible learning kitchen.
Sense received £12,223 through the Small Grants programme - engabling them to install manual rise worktops that can be adjusted to comfortably suit a person’s needs. As well as being an excellent learning resource, the kitchen will support light snack making for social events like TouchBase Glasgow’s regular cinema club and discos.
Rita Gallagher, Adult Services Manager at Sense Scotland, speaks passionately of the opportunities the learning kitchen will bring to people who use TouchBase Glasgow: “We’re delighted to receive funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery. The kitchen offers people we support an additional learning resource to assist personal development and help many on their journey towards independent living. The refurbished kitchen provides a safe environment for people with communication support needs to learn and experience the freedom of cooking for themselves and their friends”.
Newly-appointed Trust Manager at People's Postcode Trust, Rebecca Whitley, said: "We are delighted to support Sense Scotland, who have a proven track-record of delivering projects to families and individuals with complex needs. Having also been funded in the past, players of People's Postcode Lottery are helping to continue a valuable partnership. And the burgers they served us were great too!"
The centre had previously recieved funds for the adjoining cafeteria, and also for their services in Dundee and Fife.
Sense Scotland also celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2015, enjoying the chance to reflect over the past, while looking towards the future and many more developments.
People’s Postcode Trust receives all of its funding from players of People’s Postcode Lottery. 55p from every £2 ticket goes to charity, and to date over £75.6 million has been raised for good causes in Great Britain. Since we were established in 2009, People’s Postcode Trust has distributed more than £10 million to over 1500 charity projects across the country.Return to news archive
