Players of People's Postcode Lottery are to support charities and community groups in London, Greater London, Scotland & Wales.

As part of the latest round of the hugely successful Small Grants programme, amounts from £500 up to £20,000 (£10,000 for projects in Wales) are available to registered charities, community and voluntary groups, community interest companies and other not-for-profit organisations.

The awards are for project-specific applications of up to 12-months in length, which provide tangible, sustainable long-term benefits with clear legacies to groups and individuals.

Since 2009, People's Postcode Trust has awarded over £10 million to more than 1500 projects across Great Britain, with over £7 million of this going to the Small Grants Programme.

One of the organisations which beneffited from an award in the last round for London was Football Beyond Borders.

Football Beyond Borders uses the power of football to tackle inequality and provide opportunities for young people to achieve their goals and make their voices heard. Many of the young people they work with come from a disadvantaged background – with football used as a mechanism to affect change, foster greater understanding between communities and improve levels of participation in sport.

They were supported with a Small Grant of £7,242 from players towards their Youth Beyond Borders programme, which engaged a number of individuals at risk of becoming not in education, employment or training (NEET) to take part in football coaching workshops and then research, plan and implement their own social action project in collaboration with other community organisations.

Jasper Kain, who founded the organisation in 2009 said:“This grant was invaluable in helping us to acquire the resources needed to deliver the Youth Beyond Borders project. We’d like to say a massive thank you to players of People’s Postcode Lottery for enabling us to make such a positive impact, and urge other groups to apply for a similar Small Grant through People’s Postcode Trust”.

Upon presenting the cheque, Calum Munro (Trusts Officer at People’s Postcode Lottery) stated: “It has been great to meet some of the young people benefitting directly from the support of players in the Youth Beyond Borders initiative. We look forward to helping support many more inspiring projects across Great Britian".
