Motocross Challenge with People's Postcode Trust
The Motocross Challenge Project - MXCP - provides young people who are out of mainstream education with the opportunity to develop useful skills in Kent and the South East region. Through the use of motocross, they educate, motivate and enthuse young people towards success in a range of courses that teach practical, social and functional life skills. They work with schools, care homes, foster homes, youth centres and youth offender services, as well as families and individuals.
They received £17,750 of funding for a project focusing on females aged 15-19 who are not currently in education or employment. The aim was to utilise motocross and mechanics to break down gender barriers and perceptions, whilst also creating aspirations for future development.
The project was very successful with 50 young women learning how to maintain a motocross bike through mechanics training and going on to learn the skills involved in riding a motocross bike. In addition to this, they took part in courses on budgeting, cooking, citizenship, fitness and functional skills, all of which were accredited through the awarding body, Asdan.
