Southampton Action for Employment changing lives
Southampton Action for Employment (SAFE) received £19,992 from People’s Postcode Trust in 2016 to provide ‘Wellbeing Choices’ courses. SAFE exists to help isolated and disadvantaged people progress with the transition into work, as well as growing in confidence, self-esteem and health. The courses have helped people to overcome significant barriers in their lives, including mental health, anxiety and depression.
Thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery, the programme was able to provide 60 hours’ worth of training for each individual who participated. The results were incredible: at least 50% of participates successfully obtained paid employment or voluntary work, and 75% improved their mental health and well-being.
The Choices courses had a huge impact on those who attended:
“The Choices course has given me a different outlook on life and allowed me to see who I am and where I am going. It has also helped me to address things I didn’t want to address previously.”
“The course has helped with my depression and taught me how my behaviours are affected by my emotions. I am now more aware of what I am feeling so my behaviour has really improved.”
